The History Channel's "Only in America", hosted by Larry the Cable Guy, will feature a segment filmed in Hernando County last summer in an episode which airs Tuesday, March 1st at 9 p.m. The actor comedian was filmed swimming with the mermaids at Weeki Wachee State Park and visiting other points of interest in Hernando County.
“Larry was a blast to work with," said John Athanason, Marketing and Public Relations Director for Weeki Wachee Springs State Park. "He was so gracious - and totally enthralled with the mermaids. He also brought his wife and kids for the visit and they got a big kick out of watching him put on a fish tail and get in the pool. Like everyone else who's ever tried it, Larry was surprised how challenging it is to be a mermaid. Of all the celebrities I’ve worked with over the years, Larry was one of the nicest I’ve ever met.” John added that Larry was especially impressed with the beauty of Bayport and Hernando County's coastline.
Don't forget to watch or record the program next Tuesday evening - March 1st - at 9 pm. on The History Channel.
