Hernando County's Preparations for Tropical Storm Fay
August 17, 2008 - 9:00 p.m.

Hernando County Emergency Management officials will hold a Threat Advisory Committee meeting Monday, August 18, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Emergency Operations Center, 18900 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, Florida, to discuss preparations for Tropical Storm Fay.

Residents are strongly urged to monitor the storm closely. The current track projects strengthening to a Category 1 with possible impact to the north of Hernando County. Residents should review their emergency plans and be prepared. Additional information will be released after the Threat Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow morning.

Hernando County schools and all government offices will be open tomorrow.

Emergency Management Department staff has monitored the progress of Tropical Storm Fay since Friday afternoon. Public Works and Utilities operations have made preparations over the weekend such as fueling vehicles and preparing for debris collection should Hernando County be impacted by the storm.

Crime Watch FYI !!!

Last Thursday 8/7/08 you may have heard helicopters flying over Preston Hollow at night and wondered what was going on. Someone called the police because people were trespassing on properties here in Preston Hollow. Those individuals caught by the police are also suspected of committing animal cruelty in Wyndsor Place. Please remember to keep an eye out for any suspicious activity and report it to the Sheriff's Office. Below is the police report number with the information. Thanks for being a good neighbor!

The Greater Hernando County Chamber Of Commerce Government Affairs Committee will present the 2008 Candidates Forum on Thursday, August 14th at 6:00 pm at the County Commissioners Chambers, 20 North Main Street, Brooksville. This event is open to the public. There will be a meet and greet with the candidates starting at 5:00 pm. The questioning panel consists of Michael Konrad-Editor of the St. Petersburg Times/Hernando Times and Chris Wessel-Editor of the Hernando Today.

The Forum will be broadcast live on Bright House Channel 622 and simulcast on WWJB 1450 AM. This event is sponsored by the Hernando County Association of Realtors, Hernando Builders Association and Hernando Progress. Call the Chamber Office at 352-796-0697 for additional information. AARP is offering Driver Safety Program Classes

AARP is offering a refresher course for drivers age 50 and older. The eight-hour course is given in two four-hour segments, and the cost is $10 per person. Since class size is limited, call to register.
